Statement on school shooting in Uvalde, Texas

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) yesterday issued the following statement on a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, and the Diocese of Joliet offers the following words as its own homage to the lives lost.

Our heart breaks for the lives lost yesterday in Texas, and we ask God to pour his mercy on the affected families and entire school community and town of Uvalde. We pray for the collective soul of our nation, where tragedies such as yesterday’s have become all too commonplace. Let us mourn as one human family as we seek peace and safety for our children for today and every tomorrow.
