The National Eucharistic Revival is a three-year initiative intended to spark a movement of renewal within the Catholic Church by enkindling a living relationship with Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
Faced with the knowledge that only one-third of self-described Catholics believe in the Real Presence, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) at its November 2021 meeting approved both the revival and a teaching document on the Eucharist.
Bishop Hicks and the Diocese of Joliet joined the rest of the nation in kicking off the National Eucharistic Revival on the Feast of Corpus Christi 2022 (June 19, 2022) with a Mass and a Eucharistic procession (see video below).
The year of diocesan revival featured events revealing the Eucharist as “the source and summit of the Christian life,” as proclaimed by the Second Vatican Council.
The year of parish revival will began on the Feast of Corpus Christi 2023 (June 11, 2023) with local eucharistic processions and will continue through the next year with such events as a regular Holy Hour.
The revival will culminate in a National Eucharistic Congress held from July 17 to 24, 2024, in Indianapolis; the event is expected to draw 80,000 Catholics.
The final year of the revival, marked from July 21, 2024, to Pentecost 2025 (June 8, 2025), will send all Catholics out into the world to share the gift of the Eucharist as we prepare for the Church’s jubilee in 2025.
Helpful Resources on the National Eucharistic Revival
The four routes begin with kickoff events during the weekend of Pentecost, which is May 17–May 19, 2024. Each route will walk with Jesus across the country for approximately two months. All four groups will meet in Indianapolis on July 16 to attend the National Eucharistic Congress from July 17–July 21, 2024.
Departing from the headwaters of the Mississippi, the northern arm of the Pilgrimage will descend through the midwestern United States, pass through Wisconsin and Illinois, and meet up with the other three pilgrimage routes at the Congress in Indianapolis. The pilgrimage will pass through Chicagoland in late June, beginning June 26, 2024, with a Mass, Adoration and a Procession at Mundelein Seminary and ending with two events in Whiting, Indiana, on July 1.
At the 10th National Eucharistic Congress, our Catholic family will gather to experience profound, personal renewal through the power of Christ’s love. Like a new Pentecost, this transformation will flow out from Indianapolis from July 17–21, 2024, to bring revival in our communities as the Church returns to her first love—the source and summit of our faith.
